ALEX HENRY .451 Military Small Bore Percussion Rifle, This is an original rifle, not a replica. 36" Bbl, Round with Hex, Break-away Breech, Military checkered stock. This model has the "snub" nose feature of the Model 1858 Military Rifles, Two barrel Bands and no provision for a bayonet. Engraved breech, lock and trigger guard. Trigger guard is scroll type, forming a pistol grip. Steel Ramrod with brass tip. General pitting, some heavy. Barrel has been reblued and barrel may have been relined, but if it has, it is with Alex Henry seven groove rifling and bore is in excellent shape. Has a barrel mounted military style leaf sight and also fitted with a Neumann (RSA) Windgauge Front Sight with Spirit Level. $3800.00.

BEASLEY .451 Original Small Bore, Muzzle Loading, Long Range Match Target Rifle, Made by B. Beasley of Birmingham, England, circa 1864 with Whitworth Hexagonal Bore, 35" Barrel, Serial Number 167. Beasley made hex bore Whitworth barrels under license from Whitworth. This is an early match rifle and equipped with a windage adjustable front globe sight with a pin head post and a barrel mounted military leaf sight of the era's normal style - the rear sight elevation slider is missing - no provisions for a Vernier back sight on the tang. This is not a military/target rifle, but is a true early match of free rifle, looking exactly like a Whitworth match rifle of the same period, i.e. pistol grip, shotgun butt half stock with a horn forearm tip, no provision for a ramrod. In good shape through and still capable of excellent accuracy due to its hex Whitworth bore. $8500.00.

KERR .451 Original Small Bore, Muzzle Loading, Long Range Match Target Rifle, Made by James Kerr, 54 King William St. London EC, circa 1865, Whitworth Hexagonal Bore, 36-1/4" Barrel, Serial Number 828, no sights, but original bases are on barrel and tang - we could adapt modern made replica original style sights to this. Gun has been refinished out and barrel does have some outside pitting, but bore is excellent. $8500.00.

RIGBY .451 Original Small Bore, Muzzle Loading, Long Range Match Target Rifle, Made by the famous John Rigby, Dublin & London, in 1865 for the NRA of GB, 37" barrel, with false muzzle and false muzzle is numbered to the rifle. The rifle has it's original sights, consisting of a spirit level windgauge front sight, a military style barrel mounted rear sight and its original long range Vernier Tang sight. Serial No.12484. Old repair to stock, just behind the hammer - well done. Good to very good out, with very good to excellent bore. These Rigby's are the scarcest of them all and rightly so. $15,000.00.

WHITWORTH .451 Original Small Bore, Muzzle Loading, Long Range Match Target Rifle, Made by famous Joseph Whitworth in his Manchester, England Armory, circa 1864 with Whitworth Hexagonal Bore, 35-1/2" Barrel (note the original barrel has been cut back approximately 1/2" and the Whitworth counterbored muzzle crown eliminated - this was done in the old days as many shooters felt the counterbore was not conducive to reliable long range shooting. Serial No. F358. This rifle is complete with its original Whitworth Match Target sights in their original leather covered Whitworth sight box, but has also been fitted with modern Neumann (RSA) Whitworth replica sights to use in modern competitions. The rifle also has Whitworth's patented barrel mounted military leaf sight with the double rack and pinion elevation adjusting device. Also in an oak, felt lined, casing which is of the period, but not original to the rifle. Rifle is in good shape out, with a very good, shiny bore. $15,000.00.

WALL HANGER DB SHOTGUN European SxS Percussion Shotgun, 16ga, Side Hammer, Back Action Locks (not working), Cap Box in Stock, also two inlays using USA .25 Cent Pieces, dated 1857 with sitting Liberty and American Eagle. As is $150.00.

EUROARMS ALEX HENRY, .451, Two Band, Small Bore Military Rifle Replica. 33" Barrel with Henry Style Rifling - 1 turn in 22", Checkered Military Full Stock, Military leaf rear, adjustable to 800 yards. The wrist of the stock has been inleted for a Holbrook "Dr, Goodwin's" Vernier sight (no sight, but I can supply, if you so desire - see "Target Sights" further down the list. In overall Excellent condition and no rings in the bore. $695.00.

PEDERSOLI FRONTIER .32 American Style, Percussion "Longrifle", (Manufacturer's No. S.267), 39" Octagon Barrel with a 1-48" rifling twist, Brass mounted, browned barrel, bar style lock, double set triggers, blade front and buckhorn rear sights, Length overall 55-1/8", LOP 14-1/4", weight 7lbs. New in Box, unfired $500.00.

PEDERSOLI GIBBS Muzzle Loading Long Range Target Rifle .451, this is Pedersoli's latest addition and is a copy of the famed Gibbs and/or Rigby style LRML Target Rifle. Comes complete with usable LR Vernier Rear Sight and Spirit Level, Windage Adjustable Front Sight. Also, I include with each rifle, one of my 1/4-28 Platinum lined nipples and wrench (a $56.00 value) and a .448 bullet sizing die for perfect bullet fit (a $30.00 value). PEDERSOLI GIBBS LRML Target Rifle as above, but in .40 caliber. Pedersoli has produced this rifle with a 1-24" rifling twist for many years - they have now come out with a "FAST TWIST" version of this .40 caliber with a rifling twist of 1 in 16". The 1 in 24" is suitable for Mid-Range shooting (out to 600 yards), while the 1 in 16" is truly a long range, out to 1000 yards, rifle. I stock the "Fast Twist" Part Number S.225-40-Fast Twist. I equip this rifle with one of my Cunard's Platinum Lined Nipples and wrench and a .398 bullet sizing die for a correct bullet fit, price complete is $1500.00. BALLISTOL Multi-Purpose Sportsman's Oil, Lubricates-Penetrates-Cleans-Protects-Preserves..............This lubricate has become the most popular with long range black powder target shooters. I use it to clean and protect the bore after the Saturday's Match Shooting and then after the weekend's Matches are done, cleaning with soap and water when I get back to the Shop, that Sunday night. Does not cause extra fouling, the way petroleum oils do. Contains no carcinogens and is bio-degradable. ROLLER/PEDERSOLI LOCK UPGRADE - Robert Roller of Huntington, WV, well known and respected for his manufacture of flint and percussion locks, now makes a conversion parts set for field installation on the Pedersoli Gibbs lock. The original Pedersoli lock plate, hammer and sear spring are retained, but all other parts are of Mr. Roller's highest quality manufacture. This conversion parts kit is a plus improvement to the already finely accurate Pedersoli Gibbs. MUZZLE LOADERS - When shooting elongated bullets in your muzzle loader - doesn't matter whether it is a Long Range M/L Match Rifle OR an In-Line Muzzle Loader, it's a good idea to wrap the threads of either the nipples (LRML Match Rifle) and/or the Breech Plug (In-Line M/L) with Plumber's Teflon tape. You'll never experience another stuck nipple or plug, if you do.

MUZZLE LOADERS Clean your rifles the same day as you shoot them - got that? Clean them!!! Forget the super new cleaners and the super claims - use hot water with dish washing liquid, remove the barrel from the stock, remove the nipple, put the breech end in a bucket of hot, soapy water and pump it through the bore. Then dry the bore and outside of the barrel. Oil with Ballistol liberally and you'll be O.K. Don't forget to remove the oil before you load again - you will not have a corroded bore and will enjoy many years of usage.

An old shooter was sitting on the benches behind the firing line, after having shot this 300 yard rapid fire match when he is approached by a young shooter. "What did you have for windage when you came off the line?" inquired the young man. "Four minutes left" said the old shooter. The young shooter goes to the line, puts four minutes left wind on and shoots his rapid fire string. After the match the young shooter again approaches the old shooter and says "Say, I used your windage and all my shots were out to the left!!!" The older shooter said "yes, so were mine".

There is nothing the matter with the size of the current NRA/Military 1000 yard LR Target - it's just too far away, that's all........JMH

FROM "THE NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION 1859-1909" by Humphry and Fremantle (published in the UK, 1914) - page 129 dated 1868 - "Shooting with "match" rifles, or with "any rifles," as they then were called, was in the muzzle-loading days an affair of considerable elaboration. Besides his rifle and ramrod each man carried a case containing his wads and percussion caps, scoring book and sundry other articles, and in particular a number of small glass bottles with corks, each containing one charge of powder, which he himself minutely weighed out at home. A few, including Edward Ross, adopted the less troublesome method of loading directly from a powder-flask, but most men found it difficult invariably to throw from the flask the exact amount of powder, consequently the previous weighing out of powder charges into bottles was generally accepted as the orthodox practice. These paraphernalia and refinements were a source of amusement to the cynically disposed; there was an amusing picture in Punch of an elderly painstaking marksman slowly rising from the firing point with his elaborate apparatus, while a rude boy with the half-conscious cruelty possible only to boys exclaimed 'Yah---never 'it it!'......................."
